Snooze.

When it comes to clothes I'm not afraid to say that I know what I am doing. I know my style, I know what looks good on my body, and I know what "pieces" are worth the investment and what items will be a one season wear. 

I am not so confident when it come to home decor (understatement of the year).

It's like I don't even know where to begin. Everything in our home in new, including the furniture. This is nothing more than an indication of how bad we were living before. Think of your Freshman year in college and that pretty much sums it up. 

There were certain things that we had to get that did not involve much thought. Things like the kitchen table, sofa, ottoman, etc. The Husband and I were so afraid to make the "wrong" decision that we ended up option for very neutral pieces (aka brown) thinking that we would be able to accent easier and change things up easier as well. We also have a pretty minimal/ modern "style" so for a while it's been easy with the less is more.

Motivated by a small dinner party (does one other couple and a baby make it a party?) I popped Downtown to pick up some things that we have been needing for a while. When I got everything home I realized that it is all so boring. I mean Boring. 

Nothing is really wrong with anything I chose, it's basically the equivalent to buying yet another black sweater. It's safe and you know it looks good but do you really need another black sweater?

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

We needed a new door mat. Yep, I picked the Brown one. I certainly could have gotten the red, or blue, or multi colored one, but I picked Brown. 

We needed some new placemats to go with the some I already bought this summer. Yep, I picked the snakeskin embossed ones. The brown ones. To go on the brown table. 

You see what I'm talking about. 

(and yes I also see that the couch and curtains are brown, ugh)

I know what you are saying. But wait yum look at those green patterned ones that contrast so well with the black and white napkins and cool green snakeskin napkin holders, that is pretty stylish. Yeah, except I didn't make that style connection. Potterybarn did. The problem was they only had three placemats hence the need for more.

Finally, we needed a "catch all" bowl. You know, something to throw cell phones and keys and change in? What did I pick to go with the silver frames and silver appliances? Yep, a silver one.

I really want our home to be a reflection of us, of who we are as a family. I guess my main concern is that what our home is "saying" to people is that we are, well boring. Boring and mainstream. 

Hmmmmmmm I'm not quite sure how to rectify this. Maybe buy some design books. Maybe take a class? Maybe I just need to buy some crazy rug to force myself to design around it. OK, we both know that I'm never going to do that. 

I guess the first step is admitting that you have a problem so here we go. My name is yummy mummy and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing when it comes to interior design.

You think there is a support group for this? I guess that is what I have you all for!

Today is the last full day of "work" in My Dream Home, and thank God, it can't come any sooner. I repeat it CANNOT come any sooner.

You want an example? 

Today while I was showing the "finisher" (or the godfather in this case) the molding that I would like repaired we glanced over and what I saw literally took my breath away.  I would have taken a picture if I didn't fear for the life of my only child. 

So there was the little man, smiling at us, FROM THE TOP OF AN 8 FOOT LATTER.

Yes, the TOP.

He climbed up there and was very proud of himself. Once I scooped him off I nearly fell on the floor laughing. By the look on the contractor's face this was not the reaction that he was looking for. 

Did I mention how psyched I am that this is almost over?

Hello Lover.

I know what I MUST have for my 30th birthday.

Seriously, MUST HAVE. 

The Missus posted a picture of this work of art last week on her blog and I cannot get them out of my head. 

I MUST have them. I repeat I HAVE to have them. 

The Husband gave me a solid "maybe."

This is a very good sign. Maybe almost always turns into, "hello, did you see my amazing new shoes?"

Yes, I know I got a new pair of Louies for my birthday last year, but again, I MUST HAVE THEM. 

To any family member out there I repeat. I MUST HAVE THESE. Any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. 

Just in case there is any doubt. I MUST HAVE THESE. I absolutely refuse to get another year older without them.

I'll have you all know that I used the grab application to download these pictures and yes I found it on my computer and I figured out all by myself how to use the damn thing. That alone deserves a new pair of shoes doesn't it? I know just the pair..........

I Don't Trust The Eggs.

Please tell me if this is TMI.

For the past 4 months I have been using the Clearblue Easy fertility monitor (pictured to the right). Every month I have been getting the "egg" on day 17. For those of you out there who are not familiar with this type of device, this is basically the day you are supposed to get down and dirty to have the best chance of getting knocked up. 

So I have been following this regimen without any success and at this point I am questioning the accuracy of these tests. Why now? Because now I am in day 20 and still no egg. I'm pretty sure I have already ovulated and have been trying to listen to my body and the machine. I read on the Internet that you are also supposed to "try" prior to your money day so I have been doing that too.

This whole no egg thing is still driving me nuts. I called the company today and they said if there is no egg then keep going, or maybe I'm not ovulating this month. Can that happen? 

I curious if any of you out there have used these type of machines and had any luck or success. As an aside I was able to get pregnant twice (on the first try) with the sticks that give you simile faces, but to save money this time I went with the fancy monitor. Yes, I am now regretting that decision.

Please feel free to leave anonymous comments if you have any advice or experience with this device or getting knocked up in general.

Dress Found!!!!!

I feel like Paris Hilton finally finding my lost puppy, Tinkerbell (or a brain in her case.)

My bestest yummy mummy friend R.L. turned me on to a super cute blog which discusses all things J.crew. I emailed the aficionada and within minutes I received this response from Alexis at Jcrewaficionanda.blogspot.com.

"That dress is made by Madewell (J.Crew's sister store, www.Madewell1937.com). In an older post (click here) on the J.Crew Aficionada blog, there were some "sneak peaks" of both J.Crew and Madewell's clothes. One of the images (click here), shows the dress you are looking for in three colors. (Or at least they look very similar). I just checked Madewell's online site and couldn't find the dress, but I am sure it will be for sale, as part of their Spring collection, soon."

Ok, I love her!!!! Love that she knows where my dress is, and even better it is made by Madewell which means that it won't be too pricey!!!!!

Has Anybody Seen This Dress?

I am so annoyed.

I am currently shopping resort collections for my march trip to Maui and I stumbled on the J. Crew website looking at bathing suits. That's when I found it. The perfect dress for my trip. Perfect, except it's not from J. Crew (go figure). Apparently it is the "model's own" says the J. Crew lady when I called to inquire. Um, since when do you advertise clothing on your website that is not your own freaking clothes?????

Well it seems they do and no, they wouldn't tell me the designer.

I am so annoyed.

What is even more annoying is that the picture is in flash so I can't even put the picture up here. 

I am now turning to you to help me find this dress. Someone must have seen it, somewhere. It has to be out there.

Pots and Pans, Oh My.

Yummy Mummy's Christmas present finally arrived! No it's not a new pair of shoes, but rather a new set of Pots and Pans! These are not just any pots and pans people, these are the Williams Sonoma 10-piece LTD2 All Clad pots and pans. Just saying that makes me feel like Martha Stewart (one could only dream). 

Before you think these pans are unnecessary please take a look at what we have been working with. 

This is from my parent's camping collection circa 1988.

Here is the old set (yes, I'm embarrassed to even show you these). Note the 3 dollar Ikea pot that The Husband and I purchased back in 2001.

And here is my new saucepan. AMAZING!

Seriously people, these pans are like a work of art!

They seem to be enjoying the Viking stove. It's like a match made in culinary heaven.

The Year of the Yummy Mummy.

I have officially decided that 2009 will be my year. Why this year you ask? It's like this.

I was born on May 9, 1979 at 9 am. My husband was born on October 9th. I was married on January 9th. To add to that my mom was born on August 9th. See a trend here? 

Yep I'm a 9.

This year also brings some big milestones for me. I will be turning 30 this year, hopefully having another baby, and my Dream Home will finally be finished (oh please god). As an aside I also plan to expand my wardrobe greatly (sorry honey).

 These are all big things so as I said I have officially decided that this is my year.

With every New Year comes those dreaded resolutions. I am never one to put too much stock into things but here are my goals for this year.

1. I will try to stop obsessing over things that I can't control (emphasis on the try).
2. I will make the bed 5 of the 7 days (my husband hates and un-made bed, I could care less).
3. I will work on the book with the goal of finishing by the end of the year.
4. I will be more patient with my little man and my big man.

That seems like enough. Don't want to overburden myself.
