Interesting...

Did you hear the rumor that Goop may be coming to a magazine stand near you?

Source

My first thought is hmmmmmm, interesting. It could be really good like Cookie, or it could be really bad like, well, Goop (the newsletter.) It sounds like the focus will be on food, but you know there will have to be some fashion, parenting, and lifestyle tips thrown in there. Given how hot Gwyneth is right now, I for one will definitely be looking forward to the first issue!

Thoughts?

Can Somebody Pick Me Up Off The Floor?

After seeing this video you too will need some help after you finish rolling on the floor with laughter.

These kids are too much... I want them both! That video is priceless!

As an aside, Is it wrong that I'm pretty sure this is what it looks like when my husband and I are having a "discussion?" (minus the diapers of course)

... and I just got really excited!!! We're having a baby!!!

ps That is NOT the dresser that will be in here. It's waiting for me to paint it and move it into LM's room.

3rd Generation Surfer.

Monday, March 28, 2011

When you come from a family of avid surfers, you know that there is a good chance that you too will be born saltwater running through your veins. In case there was any concern that our LM was not going to have the bug, that was alleviated last week when my little guy braved the 50 some degree water to try to get up on the board "just like Dad." He worked on his infamous knee boarding for a while, and soon was ready to try to stand up. This would have worked except we forgot to explain the part about staying on the board after you are up. Oops. Here is how it went down.

Pictured are the three men in my life, Dad, Husband, and LM...

3 Generations of surfers.

When he got out with blue lips and teeth chattering all he could say was that "he wanted the water to be warm like Costa Rica." I hear you kid, there is a reason why I was the one holding the camera, not the one in the water.

I think it may be time to invest in a full suit...

P.S. please excuse the bad video, I was a little unprepared for what my kid was about to attempt.

Cali(fornication) Style.

Thursday, March 24, 2011

I don't know why, but for some reason the minute the wheels on our plane hit the tarmac in Los Angeles, my my style seems to automatically change. Not dramatically, mind you, but there is something about the warmer temps, the tans, the relaxed vibe, that makes dressing up seem, well, so unnecessary. Things like make up, blowouts, heels, structured jackets.  Forget about it! Nope, when I get here, I become the queen of maxi skirts, sundresses, and yes, yoga pants for days at a time. It just feels like getting all fancied up is such a waste of effort, and I am just not about to waste that kind of time when there is this much beach walking to do.

If there was any Cali girl who's style I would love to adopt (ahem steal) it would have to be the uber fabulous Karen (aka Natascha McElhone) from one of my favorite shows, Californication. Her style is the epitome of California cool, with the perfect mix of bohemian flair, and East Coat chic. I love the way she accessorizes with funky jewelry, and how she always looks so effortless. Add in that to die for hair...   and this is one look I want from head to toe.

Saturday, I will be back in the land of Winter coats, so for now I'm throwing on my favorite denim shirt, patterned silk scarf, maxi skirt, and of course, leather sandals as an ode to my new style guru. Now if I could only get David Duchovny on my arm... that is one PERFECT accessory!

I'm Not Sure Either...

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Every time I come home, I am left with the same question...

"Why is it that we don't live here?"

Sure I have a million and one reasons why I think California is a really tough place to raise children, but damn, it sure is an awesome place to have children. While it was snowing in Boston, this is how we spent our day.

Oh, and that water IS as cold as it looks, you know you can't stop a three year old on a mission.

Note to self... MOVE!

California Dreaming.

Hello friends! I realize I was a bit MIA from the blog last week, but this time I had good reason. Last week we were busy packing, and traveling, to sunny rainy California (go figure right? the one week we get here they have the storm of the year.) We arrived on Friday, and planned to stay at an amazing hotel in my hometown, where my hubby is attending a conference, but soon learned that the real 5 star hotel is the one where you don't have to sleep in the same room as your 3 year old, and where there is plenty of family to entertain a little guy getting adjusted to the time change. (Don't even get me started on the hours spent chasing the dogs and cats around.) All I can say is that the Four Seasons has nothing on this place!

We haven't let the rain slow us down a bit (we are used to blizzards this time of year, you know) and have spent every morning walking the beach, where my LM decided to do some polar bear, skinny dipping to start the morning. Wetsuit, schmetsuit, he says. We are just waiting for the storm to pass, and will fully take advantage of the beautiful sun for the rest of the week.

For now we are off to the Children's Museum (same day, different zip code) and hope to be laying by the pool later this afternoon. I'll try to be on the blog as much as possible, and I promise to bottle up as much beautiful weather that I can, to bring back to all my fellow east coasters.

Have a great week!

My New Fashion Bible.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

It has been a long time since anything has gotten me THIS excited.

Seriously.

What is it you ask?

A book.

Yes, I said a book.

Let me explain.

One of my favorite daily reads is WhoWhatWear. A few weeks back they were promoting their new book What to Wear Where, I was intrigued, so I ordered a copy. Two pages in, I immediately requested four more for all the fashionistas in my life. Since then I have been singing it's praises to everyone I know, and this is definitely become my new fashion bible. Yes, I said BIBLE!

The concept is simple, wardrobe ideas for EVERY occasion, coupled with pictures. The idea may be simple, but the suggestions, pictures, and wardrobe inspirations are so amazing, I swear I may never have to go shopping again. (I know, I know calm down.) But seriously, I am so inspired that I feel like I will have a brand new wardrobe when I can fit back into anything I own. Yes, it's that good.

The book is 12.99...

Always having the answer to, "what should I wear?"...

Priceless.

Buy this book, keep it in your closet. You will NOT regret it.  Oh, and don't forget the copies for all your friends too!

Little Man and a Baby.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

The Little Man has become pretty intrigued by my growing belly. So much so, that the other day he came out of his room looking like this.

Apparently he found an old balloon, and thought he would would help pad the "baby in his belly."

He then proceeded to tell me that:
  1. He is going to have 12 babies (said while holding up 9 fingers.)
  2. He is not going to get married, but if he has to than he is going to marry me (I'm okay with this, but I think that the law would take issue, probably my husband too.)
  3. If any of his babies cry he is going to give them a bottle and then they will stop (how awesome would it be if that were true!)
  4. I'm going to be the one to have all twelve babies in my belly because he doesn't want to get "bigger" (I hear ya kid, but this is the last baby for this belly, I too am all set with getting "bigger.")
  5. Yes, he got those poses from me (his killer dance moves too ;).
This kid seriously cracks me up!

Ahhhhhhhmazing.

Last Saturday, I had my first every maternity photos taken, and as you can see, I could not be more pleased with the final results. This was something I hadn't even considered during my first pregnancy, and prior to receiving an email from the awesome Gregory, of Katsoulis Photography, not something that I thought I'd ever do during this pregnancy. Looking back, I am so glad that I had this moment in time cemented, and given that this will likely (ahem definitely) be my last time carrying a baby, I am so happy that I will have these pictures to look back on, for the years to come. From the moment I walked into Greg's home studio, I felt so completely at ease, and thanks to his amazing photography skills, and fabulous lighting, I was able to walk out knowing that the pictures that he shot were be exactly what I was looking for.

If you live in the area, I cannot recommend Gregory's services enough. He has a wide range of indoor/ outdoor shots, on his website, that are likely to satisfy even the most self conscious mum-to-be. (put me in that category!)

Thanks again Greg, I can't wait to put some of these up in the nursery!

Bedroom: Before & After.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Squeeee! Our bedroom is FINALLY finished, and I am so excited to share the results. I feel like our living room transformation was pretty dramatic, but that had nothing on this room! Before isn't really a fair assessment of the prior space. Rather, "dumping ground for all the furniture that we could collect from our friends as they left town because all we could afford was a new bed when we moved" may be more appropriate. Of, course this leads to a much better "after" so I suppose it all works out in the end (even though I hated that damn furniture.)  I couldn't be happier with the final outcome, and I now find myself standing in the doorway, every time I pass, just to get another look. I am still searching for some accessories, I'm thinking funky and orange, but for now here are some pictures of our new and MUCH improved room.

Before:

After:

The greatest challenge in this room may have been getting that cow hide rug approved by my vegetarian husband. This mum promised to lay off the leather goods, and steaks for a while to even out things in the universe, and in the end we are both pretty psyched with the compromise.

Now, all that's left is the nursery! Woo hoo!

I Die.

Admittedly, I am a pretty big Rachel Zoe fan. She is clearly one of, if not THE best stylist out there. Her show is nothing short of hilarious, and although she is pretty much a walking parody of herself, the fact that she owns, and celebrates this, makes her terribly endearing. Let's not forget that this is the woman who brought back the whole boho chic trend, my go to look. So yes, I am a big fan. When she announced that she was pregnant, I for one was definitely looking closely at what she would be wearing. She IS the master, so who better to try to borrow steal some maternity looks from. Well, that didn't work out as planned, considering it took the woman about 8 months to even show, given her formerly too thin frame. This is why I was thrilled to see this spread in the Hollywood Reporter. Sure, I won't be wearing a fabulous floor length, sequin gown anytime soon, but I was happy to see this momma looking so fierce, and finally healthy, while rocking that serious baby bump.

This is definitely what you call maternity chic! (said by the pregnant woman typing this while in her sweatpants.)

Oh, and it turns out she is having a boy, which is a little sad considering the ridiculous clothing and jewelry that she has to hand down. Man, whoever that boy marries (if that's the way he leans) is going to be one lucky lady!
