That's All She Wrote.

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I wish I had a real post for you all today, but since I look kind of like this:

And it's hot as this outside:

All I can seem to muster up the energy to do is lay in the AC, eat pretzel bread (my new obsession,) and watch things like A Baby Story, Bringing Home Baby, and Baby's First Day (sense a theme?) Oh, and at 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant, I find myself sobbing uncontrollably every time this commercial comes on (which during those shows is a lot!)

I went to the doc today, she says I "should" go into labor sometime before my induction date, which is Friday at 4. I think she was just being nice... or she's a liar... either way I'm pretty sure I am going to be pregnant forever! It is not lost on me that I tried for years to just get pregnant, and now I can't seem to get  un-pregnant. Guess I really wanted to get it right this time!!!!!

3 more days... I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

It's All About The Goal (Jean.)

While I am not one to stress about losing the dreaded baby weight, I can't say that it doesn't cross my mind every now an then (cut to me inhaling my current craving McDonald's french fries as I type this.*) The reason that I don't give it too much weight (pun intended) is that I learned after having my little man, that with a little discipline in the exercise and diet department, AND a lot of time (time is the KEY) you can get pretty much back to where you were pre-baby without having to lose an arm or a leg to hit that number on the scale. This time around, as I grow bigger and bigger, I am enjoying my girth, rather than cursing it, and counting on the fact that eventually I will be back to my pre-pregnancy self. Heck, given that I have the next 60 years, chances are that I will be back looking better than ever.

As I said, I don't stress about the weight, but, like most people, a little motivitation never hurt. I learned after my first pregnancy that there is no better motivation than the perfect pair of "skinny jeans" and this has led me to my newest lust item, a pair of jeans that I like to refer to as the mullet jean; business on top, party on the bottom. They are actually called the Marrakesh jean by MIH, and I think they are the perfect thing to get this momma into the gym come fall. They are half rock star/ half hippie chic and fully fabulous. I can just see wearing these with a silk blouse tucked in, with a blazer at night, or in the day with a t shirt and flats a la Claudia Schiffer. My favorite boutique isn't getting them in until 3 months post baby, so with a little luck, and NO MORE french fries, hopefully these lovies will be my new fall staple. Hopefully.

You've got to love these Yummy Mummies above ROCKING this jean! www.iwantthisjeansobadithurts.com!!!!

I Die.

Admittedly, I am a pretty big Rachel Zoe fan. She is clearly one of, if not THE best stylist out there. Her show is nothing short of hilarious, and although she is pretty much a walking parody of herself, the fact that she owns, and celebrates this, makes her terribly endearing. Let's not forget that this is the woman who brought back the whole boho chic trend, my go to look. So yes, I am a big fan. When she announced that she was pregnant, I for one was definitely looking closely at what she would be wearing. She IS the master, so who better to try to borrow steal some maternity looks from. Well, that didn't work out as planned, considering it took the woman about 8 months to even show, given her formerly too thin frame. This is why I was thrilled to see this spread in the Hollywood Reporter. Sure, I won't be wearing a fabulous floor length, sequin gown anytime soon, but I was happy to see this momma looking so fierce, and finally healthy, while rocking that serious baby bump.

This is definitely what you call maternity chic! (said by the pregnant woman typing this while in her sweatpants.)

Oh, and it turns out she is having a boy, which is a little sad considering the ridiculous clothing and jewelry that she has to hand down. Man, whoever that boy marries (if that's the way he leans) is going to be one lucky lady!

Because NO ONE Wants To See a Naked Bump!

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

I've been desperately trying to avoid purchasing any new maternity clothes to cover my ever growing bump, desperately. In fact, I have been doing great during these cold winter months given that my usual wear consists of leggings, long chunky sweaters, and T's. These items easily double as maternity wear, and to be honest, up until now, I thought the same could be said about my existing warm weather clothes. And then I tried some of them on, yeah, not so much. See, I'm pretty sure that when you are not pregnant, you forget just how massive you were when there was a baby growing inside of you. I tried a few tops on over the weekend, and even at 18 weeks, things are looking a bit short and tight (never a good look) and to wear them 20 weeks from now? Forget about it!

Because no one wants to see a naked bump, and because my last ENTIRE maternity wardrobe consisted of work suits, and Juicy sweatpants (I wish I was kidding,) I decided that before we head to California in a few weeks, it was in my best interest to pick up something to keep me covered. I looked for clothes that weren't exactly "maternity," ordered a few sizes up, and picked fits that would cover my belly, while also being super appropriate for wear while shedding those last 10, 20, or 30 lbs (this is still TBD.) I didn't want to break the bank, because by the time these things make it through Summer, spit up, and breast feeding, I'm not quite sure what type of shape they will be in. Lastly, I looked for super neutral colors that would easily mix and match. It's not a lot, but with the right accessories I think it's the perfect Spring, Summer, (Non) Maternity wardrobe!

Clockwise from top left.

1) Striped Sailor Shirt, J.Crew.
2) Olive Striped Sweater, J.Crew.
3) Navy Schoolboy Blazer, J.Crew.
4) Ribbed Tank (I picked up a few in various colors), Gap Maternity.
5) Cotton Maxi Dress, Gypsy 05.
6) Striped Skirt, Anthropologie.
7) Skinny Jeans, Gap Maternity.
8) Cotton Maxi Dress, Gypsy 05.

Now if the warm weather could just get here already! Ah, well, at least I'll be ready... and clothed!
