Home Sweet Construction Site.

Thursday, February 28, 2013

We arrived home late last night to a house that still very much resembles a construction site. I thought I could handle almost anything, but when I learned that they had unplugged the Internet, a single tear most definitely rolled down my cheek (I'm trying my first ever post from my phone, and I can tell you it's not going that well.) However, there is a light at this end of this tunnel, and hopefully by this weekend we should be able to go back to a somewhat normal existence. This is convenient, given the fact that my hubby and I leave Sunday for our long awaited, SOLO trip to Costa Rica. I am crossing everything in my body, hoping that I can leave these boys (and my in-laws) with a home that is dust free, saw free, hammer free... You get the idea. Honestly, I'm pretty sure everyone would just be happy if we could figure out how it plug the damn router back in!

I'm not sure when I'll be back here, hopefully in the next day or two, but until then I'll leave you with this little memento from our trip home. This was after our flight was delayed for a third time.

If I'm not back in a few days, send help... and wine, lots and lots of wine.

UPDATE: We have internet! And Paint!!! Be back tomorrow ;)

This Is My House: Part II

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Just when I thought things in our home couldn't get any worse, on Friday morning BOTH kids woke up with double ear infections, the LM was sent home from school sick, and for almost two days the 4 of us lived in a home that looked like this.

I.Can't. Even. Deal.

Luckily for us, we were able to beat the snow on Sunday and very happily got the hell out of the construction war zone. The boys couldn't have done better during our travels, and thankfully (with the help of some ibuprofen) their little ears didn't bother them too much on the plane.

Traveling with two kids has its challenges, but I have to say that right now being as far away from our home as we can be, is a good thing. Made even better when I got the call today, that we are already 4 days behind schedule and that our waterproofer decided the job was too small for him last minute, so he just never showed up. Me, being in Maryland, means that no one gets punched in the face, and that is a very, very good thing.

I'm trying to look on the bright side of this whole ordeal (there has to be one, right?) and since the guys have to repaint every surface anyway, I'm taking this opportunity to change some paint colors.

The LM's room will soon be this beautiful shade of blue/ gray:

Farrow and Ball Parma Gray
and in my room, I'm going with this:

Farrow and Ball Downpipe
Right now, I think I'm sticking with an accent wall, but this picture of Jenna Lyon's former bedroom always makes me want to paint the whole room dark. Way dark. The only thing holding me back is the fact that we are street level and the last thing I want is a dungeon like room BUT I know accent walls are kind of running their course.

Do you all have any thoughts? Whole room? Accent wall? Know a good waterproofer? Want to punch someone in the face for me? Know how I can get that white fireplace to magically appear in my bedroom? Can anyone convince my husband that once you go dark, you never go back?

Anyone... anyone...

This Is My Home.

A few months back, we started to realize that our downstairs, our ENTIRE downstairs, was taking on water under the floors, through a crack in the foundation pouring in to the Little Man's room. A few weeks ago, we came to the conclusion that this had to be fixed asap, and the kids and I began planning our escape from what was going to be two weeks of living in a construction zone. At the time I really wasn't concerned. February break was upon us, and I couldn't think of a better reason to spend some quality time in the country with my in-laws. During the first few meetings regarding the construction, everything was treated as if it was no big deal. Then, on Wednesday, the reality set in. At first I was under the impression that nothing need to be packed, at least by me, and I learned late in the afternoon that essentially EVERYTHING needed to be packed, and our entire downstairs needed to be moved upstairs. Oh, and by the way, this all needed to be done within 36 hours. Did I mention that every minute (second) of those 36 hours was already insanely packed with to-dos to begin with.

Cut to me freaking out.

It was, and still is, a mystery how we are going to fit 1,000 sq feet of our furnished living space, in 700 square feet of heavily furnished living space. It makes my head hurt just thinking about it. The best part is, that in 10 days we have to come back to the chaos, and add in myself and the two kids. We may or may not have anywhere to sleep, and we cannot predict what the state of our home is going to be.

Basically the whole thing sucks, and all I want to do every minute of the day is this:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

BUT I know I have to put my big girl pants on, and yes, things could be worse, so for the next month, I have to kick my controlling/ clean freak tendencies to the curb, and find a way for the kids and I to navigate this "adventure" will the least amount of disruption to their lives.

Yet, I still can't believe that this is the current state of my home.

Every picture is gone, every piece of clothing packed, and unlike with a move, it all has to go back exactly where is started, with no exciting remodel to look forward to.

AND it's a freaking mess.

I will not cry. I will not cray

... in about two hours men are coming to take apart every piece of furniture that remains. I honestly can't bear the thought.

Hope you all are faring better than we are. We leave Saturday for our trip, and I'll try to post as much as the internet allows from the middle of a corn field.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

The Son Rises Early.

Note: This is NOT my kid. How do I know? Because I'm guessing that this kid sleeps past 5am!

So, on Saturday my hubby left for a week long work trip to Canada. When I can't count on his arrival at 6:30pm to step in and entertain the LM and add some additional conversation to our motley crew, it makes for a VERY long day. When you throw in a weekend, it makes for a VERY VERY long week. When you day starts at 5am and ends at 8:30pm and the only people you talk to all day are your own kids... well you get the drift.

Look, I know people do this all the time, completely by themselves, and I consider myself to be very fortunate that I do have such an awesome hubby who really does every thing in his power to come home on time... that being said, holy crap can this week just be over?

On Sunday, I was reminded of one of the many odd jobs I had in college, where I would babysit a very low traffic children's store from 10am-7pm on the weekends. I remember one day looking at the clock, and then looking back, after what I thought had been an hour or two, and to my surprise it had only been 10 minutes!!!!

That's how this week has been for us. That plane hitting the tarmac at midnight tonight can not come soon enough.

My one observation from the week is that you all are clearly not doing enough Facebooking, Pinning, Tweeting, and Blog writing between the hours of 5-7 am. I need more to read people! Even the New York Times let me down... c'mon, you can't update more than every hour? ;)

Talk about working for the weekend... a Daddy filled weekend!

Meh.

Friday, March 16, 2012

This week has just been one of those that I'm happy to see go.

On Monday, we found out that the LM didn't get into the school that we were so ridiculously in love with. I, of course, was devastated. Cried, yelled, pouted, made calls... the usual freak out. It turns out that they had a lot of boys and they think it would be beneficial to him to spend another year at his {awesome} school that he has been attending for 3 years. In the scheme of things this is no big deal. In the moment it seems as though we (I) have failed him and now he is destined to spend the rest of his life wondering what it would have been like if he had spent that one more year in the "new school." I know, that's some seriously crazy talk and as the week progressed I was able to get some of this in perspective. Now I've succumb to the whole, "it is what it is thing,"  I  can take solace in the fact that the LM told me last night that he is "not going to another school.... EVER..... and that his school is the bestest ever." Who can argue with logic like that? So we do nothing. He stays where he is. Next year we apply again... and to a few more places, and hope that we can find him a place that loves us as much as we love them.

meh.

In other news, I'm pretty sure that the LM and I have the relationship of a 80 year old married couple. for reals. For the past few weeks it seems like all we do is bicker at each other. I am as much to blame as he is. It always starts with him talking back (which seems to be something new that came with turning 4 1/2), and then not listening. I usually make two crucial errors, 1) I try to reason with him, or 2) I try to get a reaction out of him by threatening something dramatic i.e. I'm going to take away ALL your toys. He then fake overreacts, I thrown my hands up in frustration... the moment passes and we are both totally over it. We then make some grand declaration of love, to wit, you are the best little boy in the whole world, and I love you. Then we move on. This seems to happen about 10 times a day. I have to say it's exhausting and tomorrow I'm going to try to deal with things differently. Have you ever spent the day arguing with someone who is totally irrational? I definitely don't recommend it. Looks like one of us is going to have to be the grown up (I'm guessing that's me) and keep things from escalating in such a dramatic fashion.

meh.

To top it all off, I think my baby has his 200th cold this year. Normally I would just say, this is what happens when you are the second child, but given that we just had our 2nd stomach flu of the season a week or two ago, I'm just thinking a little break from all the germs would be nice. If it were just baby, I could say, "well at least his immune system is getting a boost," but you all know that these things go from one kid to the next, then eventually to Dad (who reverts to a kid when he isn't feeling well) and then eventually to Mom, who gets over it just in time for another bout with something else. It really is a vicious cycle.

meh.

Speaking of the season... what is up with this New England weather? Look I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth (what does that even mean?) but can't it just stay warm? or cold? or something in between? We spent last weekend planning our annual Costa Rica trip, and right now I am itching for some sun and sand. Soon enough I know.

meh.

Since I'm really bitching here, can we just talk about daylight savings? Why does one hour throw things off so dramatically, and why aren't my kids as affected as me? This time change actually worked in our favor, allowing baby to stay up until 7pm, and not wake until 6:30... but the problem is that 6:30 still feels like 5:30, and then the flip is no one wants to go to bed on time. I have a feeling I was asleep before the LM last night and it was 9:30!!!

meh.

Okay, enough whining. I recognize that NONE of these things even register on the scale of bad, sad, or even abnormal... so I'll just quit my bitching, play the debbie downer wah wah in my head and move on. The weekend is here, the warm weather is coming back on Sunday, and we are all healthy (sans gray beans) so what more could we need?

Sulking done. Bring on the weekend and hopefully a better week next! I hope you all had a better week than us!

p.s. This is what I plan on doing the second this rain stops. You all remember my plea to Santa for this? Well, he, my hubby, and the amazing people over at Zigo all got together and made all our Christmas Spring dreams come true! And yes, it is absolutely as good as it looked like it would be!

Christmas; puke; Christmas; puke.

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Oh, Christmas 2011, you are one that will not soon be forgotten.

Last Thursday, baby Gray woke up with the stomach flu. Christmas morning, my Sis and I both got it. Double whammy. Yesterday, my poor hubby, and today the LM.

Is case you lost track that's about a week of puking.

Sometime last night, we decided that Baby Jesus was smiting us non-believers for not celebrating his birthday the way he would have wanted. Either that or we did something REALLY bad in a past life. I'd like to think that squishy little baby in the manger wouldn't have it in him, but after seeing what my own squishy little baby has done in the past week, I believe he can do just about anything.

I saw this on Facebook yesterday, somewhere in between my 20th and 1,000th load of laundry and thought all you other heathens out there would appreciate it.

Okay, now I'm pretty sure I'm going to Hell. And by Hell I mean having to clean up after a family of 5 after they've been sick.

I'll be back after I Lysol my entire house. Then my kids. Then my house again.

Up All Night... Again!

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Two weeks ago the unthinkable happened. My baby gave me the best present ever. Like a Christmas, Birthday, Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year all rolled into one, kind of present. He started sleeping through the night. Yes, my friends, that is some priceless s%#t.

It came out of nowhere. Until he turned 10 weeks we were up every night at 12:45, 4:45. and sometimes for good measure 6:45. I figured that maybe I would get lucky and he would drop that 12:45 feed, but no, my little guy seemed to be holding on to his schedule for dear life. Then, one day, he didn't wake up. Of course, when I awoke at 4 and realized I hadn't heard him, I rushed upstairs to make sure he was still breathing (he was) woke him, fed him, and went back to sleep. The next night he did the same, and I again, woke him, and fed him. Realizing, it was crazy to keep waking him up, I called the pediatrician and asked for" permission" to let him sleep through. I was told that as long as he was feeding 6-7 times a day (he was) and peeing an equal number (that too) than I should pinch myself, thank a higher power, and let that baby snooze away. I happily complied.

For 9 blissful days, I put him down at 7:15 pm and didn't see his chubby, smiling face, until almost 8 am the next morning. OMG I felt like I had my life back. No more freaking out at 9:30 pm that I would be up in less than two hours, no more walking around like a zombie all day, no more hiding from my 4 year old, under the covers, when he came to get me in the morning. I was almost a human again. Almost.

Just when I thought it was safe again to go out with my hubby or friends, and have that second glass of wine, my little guy has gone and turned the switch again and Tuesday was up at 5am (after a night out with the girls (ouch)  and last night we were back to our 12:45, and 4:45 routine again.

WTF???????

I keep telling myself that maybe it is just a 12 week growth spurt (is there such a thing?) Or that maybe it was some freakish circumstance... gas, a nightmare, hell, maybe a ghost? Anything, ANYTHING other than the fact that I am going to be back on the up all night track... again!

Crap. Maybe it's time to start praying.

Did any of you go through this with your little ones. Did they tempt you with a night of sleep and then rip it away the second you started to take advantage of it? Is he too young to bribe him with a new car? Trip around the world? College on an opposite coast? A gold watch?

He's got two more weeks of this. Now that I know he can make it though, don't think Dr. Ferber hasn't crossed my mind. You hear me baby Gray. 2 more weeks!

Sick Baby.

Friday, September 23, 2011

Graybeans woke up last night having trouble breathing. I took him to the Doc this morning and it turns out he caught a little cold from his older brother (the first of many I presume) which quickly moved into his lungs. After a few treatments with the nebulizer he's feeling much better, but still needs to be monitored early and often. The goal is to keep him out of the ER this weekend, so I have to wake him every few hours to check his chest. I think he will be fine, and looks a lot better already, and I'm just glad they were able to get in front of this thing before it got any worse.

Poor bunny, even when he can't breathe he still smiles up a storm.

Back soon.

The Elusive Double Nap.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

It took almost 2 hours of blood (mine), sweat (mine), and tears (definitely mine and a few of Gray's) to get both kids down at the same time for a 45 minute nap. After getting up 6 times last night (WTF Gray?????) it was definitely needed. I almost was able to get in a shower (sans child in the bathroom) but instead, was woken up with an ant farm sitting on my head.

I guess there's almost tomorrow...

Nobody climed Everest in a day, right?

That's All She Wrote.

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I wish I had a real post for you all today, but since I look kind of like this:

And it's hot as this outside:

All I can seem to muster up the energy to do is lay in the AC, eat pretzel bread (my new obsession,) and watch things like A Baby Story, Bringing Home Baby, and Baby's First Day (sense a theme?) Oh, and at 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant, I find myself sobbing uncontrollably every time this commercial comes on (which during those shows is a lot!)

I went to the doc today, she says I "should" go into labor sometime before my induction date, which is Friday at 4. I think she was just being nice... or she's a liar... either way I'm pretty sure I am going to be pregnant forever! It is not lost on me that I tried for years to just get pregnant, and now I can't seem to get  un-pregnant. Guess I really wanted to get it right this time!!!!!

3 more days... I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

Top Ten Facebook Pet Peeves.

Friday, May 20, 2011

Admittedly, I am a huge fan of Facebook. I think it is a great way to connect with old friends, share information, and stay involved in each other's lives. It is probably my first click in the morning, my last at night, and throughout the day I am definitely guilty of scanning status updates on my phone. Considering I have moved quite a bit throughout my life, I think of it as a great gift that I am able to still share in the lives of friends, who without it, I probably wouldn't communicate with short of a Christmas card or phone call each year. That being said, there are CLEARLY some annoyances that come with the good, and I figured why not share with you some of my Facebook pet peeves. I know I'm not alone in finding most of these things to be less than desirable, and if there is an "unofficial" users guide to "the book," in my mind of these should be in it. I find all ten to be equally annoying, but number 10 is the one that I have found myself having to bite my tongue err finger at the most. I would be lying if I said that I had never broken one of my cardinal rules, but those of you who are friends with me can attest, most of the time I try to avoid these like the plague.
  1. People who incessantly update their status with EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of their lives. Nobody cares what you are eating, when you woke up, where you are working, or how busy your day is. These topics in moderation are fine, but when you mention them every 5 minutes it becomes unbelievably annoying. If you want to write about every detail of your life, join twitter, this is why God created it.
  2. People who send out vague status updates just begging for people to ask questions. Tell us up front what the hell you are talking about. Example: "I am so worried, this is the worst thing that could happen, how is this going to end?" At this point 20 or so people will say, "OMG, what's wrong, what is going on?" and the worst is most of the time the poster will never answer!!! If you don't want people to know your business, don't put it in a status update. Oh, and the best is... "I'm just so over it." OVER WHAT????????  Is it that hard to finish the sentence?
  3. People who post one.picture.at.a.time on their wall. There is nothing like going on and seeing 41 vacation photos, in a string, on your news feed. This is why there is an "album" feature... use it.
  4. People who CONSTANTLY COMPLAIN. It's really just a buzz kill to always hear how bad your life is. I'm not sure if people do this so everyone will feel sorry for them, or so they will get dozens of compliments.... which leads to number 5.
  5. You know you are not fat, ugly, stupid, professionally inept...etc so STOP saying you are. Clearly, you are only looking for people to negate these comments. We get it. We love you. We shouldn't always have to tell you. This is attention seeking at its worst.
  6. People who make up those annoying polls. Do I, or anyone else, care what the best burrito is at X restaurant? No. Do I care if you think the president is doing a good job? No. Let's be honest, you don't either!
  7. People who pick political fights with STRANGERS (this should also include picking political fights in general, but I get that some people just can't help themselves.) I can't tell you how many times I have "liked" a friends status, or agreed with something they wrote, only to get attacks from 15 of their "friends." Really? I don't even know you? It was YOUR friend that wrote the message... why, oh why, am I your new enemy?
  8. People who write hateful, homophobic, racist, sexist,  (name your ist here) links or updates. Facebook is the only place where you are "friends" with people who you either don't know well, or knew a VERY long time ago. Please don't constantly remind me why we don't hang out anymore, and when I de-friend you, please don't message me and make me spell it out for you. Some thoughts are better left INSIDE your head.
  9. People who constantly write posts about how they are going to change their lives. Everyday you write the same thing. Clearly, nothing is changing. I have an idea... get of the computer and DO what you keep actually saying you are going to do.
  10. Finally, my number one pet peeve: Facebook PDA. Can someone PLEASE explain to me why people find it necessary to write on their spouse's, partner's lover's, one-night-stand's wall so that EVERYONE can view and comment on what an "amazing" spouse/partner/lover/lay they were/are. Listen, you people live together, you have each other's phone number, you can text/call/email/nudge the person to say "I love you more and more each day and you are the light in my life, and the reason I am alive." By writing it on a wall, or putting in your status you are ONLY doing it so everyone can say how sweet you are, which totally cheapens anything you put in a message. I'm not saying a "happy anniversary to my wonderful husband" is out of line, but anything beyond that, not limited to pet names, is just way too much. (This is coming from someone who also thinks hand holding is totally awkward and unnecessary.)
So that's it. Those are my pet peeves! Am I missing anything? What makes you want to delete your account (as if I could ever get the nerve up to do such a thing.)

Is it wrong that I want to stalk my test results?

I tracked down the lab, found out per their website that the FISH test only take 24-48 hours once the specimen is received. It was picked up Tuesday at 10 and the lab is an a hour away. Assuming there were other pickups then I'm guessing it got to the lab by 4pm. unless the snowstorm of the last TWO days kept the technicians at home, then it has to be back later today.

Right?

Yeah, I think I need to read a book or something.

Whoever said that patience is a virtue, clearly spent their life medicated... or drunk.

Anytime now PLEASE!

*UPDATED* I finally broke down and called my OB at 10:57. Results are still in "process." She isn't sure if the snow will delay the results. As if I needed another reason to hate the snow.

Ugh.

Sick In The Jungle.

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Wouldn't you just know it.

Here I thought we could escape cold and flu season by escaping to the middle of nowhere (literally) but those school bugs followed my little man down, and right now we have three sickies in our house.

We seem to be on the mend, and I just keep telling myself that it is much better to have a cold in the 80 degree sunny weather, than it is in the 20 degree blustery weather back home, but still, sick is sick, and it pretty much blows (just like this constantly runny nose.)

This is when a cocktail would really come in handy....

I was about to write a post today when it hit me... NEXT WEEK IS THANKSGIVING!!!!

How the hell did that happen?

In my whole baby haze/glory I seem to have lost a month. Um, S%#*!

Normally this would not be problem except for the fact that next week we leave for a week, come back for 5 days, leave for NYC for the weekend, come back for two days and then leave for Costa Rica for two weeks, getting back two days before Christmas. (Whew.)

Ask me what I have gotten as far as Christmas pressies?

Yeah, you guessed it... absolutely NOTHING! Nada, zilch, zero!

Looks like I have a serious date with Amazon starting NOW!!!!!!!!

So I Had This Idea....

Friday, November 5, 2010

2 week wait = FAIL.

So I swore up and down that under no circumstances was I to take any at home pregnancy tests before getting my real, doctor sanctioned,  test on Tuesday.

Um, yeah... so that lasted exactly 8 days.

See you are not supposed to take HPT (home pregnancy tests) because you can get a false positive from the "trigger" shot that is given the day before your retrieval. Well, last time I didn't listen (because I am a rebel) and I got all negatives. This time around I thought I could trick the system and take the test early enough that I would get a negative (confirming that the trigger was out of my system) so then if I took a test over the weekend and it came back positive, then I would know it was a true positive.

Evil genius right?

Wrong!

The damn thing popped up with a positive, which normally would be AWESOME, except we have no way of knowing if it is from the trigger or from a baby. Crap. I guess now I'll just have to be a good girl and wait until Tuesday. Humph.

Even though it means absolutely nothing, can I tell you how amazing it was to look at an actual positive pregnancy test after 26 months of negatives? I think that if this round doesn't work out for us I am going to have my pregnant bestie pee on a stick each month for me just so I can see those magical words again.

Oh, it's going to be a long 4 days...

Don't Be Disappointed.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

My doctor called today to talk about the hyper-stim situation. She is demanding that we do an ultrasound prior to our transfer tomorrow to check my fluid levels. This will determine if we can go forward with the procedure as planned.

I have been ordered not to leave my sofa and to drink at least 180oz of gatorade (a task not so easily accomplished) for the rest of the day and all of tomorrow. She assured me that she has seen people turn this around completely, but that I shouldn't get my hopes up too high. In short, don't be disappointed.

So there you have it. Tomorrow we go in and see what will happen. Today I will act like a sloth and drink, drink, drink, drink.

I plan on being part of the group that "turns it around" so she better be ready to put one of those babies in me. It's game time.

Friday Blah.

Friday, October 22, 2010

Blah.

That's pretty much the only way to describe my mood today. This week will definitely go down in the suck category for me. I wish I could blame it all on the hormones (which are about 50% of the problem) but other parts of my life have been equally annoying. It started Monday with a moth infestation in my kitchen, coupled with a kid with a fever. Tuesday brought on more injections, more doctor appointments, and more of the same on Wednesday. The LM had a rough week again at school, and after a meeting with the director yesterday we have been advised to take him to an occupational therapist to have a look at his impulsivity and physicality. Ugh, there is nothing worse than hearing that your kid may or may not have a problem. After feeling like the mother failure of the year, I had an awkward encounter with an old friend last night which luckily did not deter a great reunion with some of my old peeps which was long overdue. Today, I am feeling the effects of a great night, but definitely regretting that last glass (ahem five glasses) of Malbec that somehow made their way into my bottomless glass. Today, I also got some so so news on the IVF front. We still have quite a few, about 7/8, but they are still pretty small and taking their sweet time growing. Retrieval now looks like it is Monday or Tuesday, and if these babies don't get in gear we may only have a few viable eggs. This is great for the hyperstimulation, but not so great considering we want as many as possible to freeze in case this cycle doesn't work out. More waiting, and watching, which means more injections and trips to the doctor.

Did I say blah?

Well, at least the weekend is here and it's bound to be better. My mother-in-law is arriving at the airport any minute, the The Head of the Charles is here (my favorite Cambridge event), and tomorrow I am going to attempt to play matchmaker for some very dear friends of mine.

As I was trying to figure out what to write today I stumbled upon this picture. Since I pretty much feel like an evil bitch on the inside, can't I just look like this evil bitch on the outside. No? Oh well, a girl can dream.

Source

1) This picture totally makes me want to have short hair again, 2) if I had that Birkin it would totally be strapped into the LM's baby seat, 3) those legs + that skirt + the shoes = perfection, 4) there is no way in hell she is riding that bike wearing that.

Hope you all had a better week than I did... at least it's about to be over!

Waaaaaaaaaaa.

It's freezing and raining out, and I'm home sicker than I have been in a long time. Can somebody please call the waaaaaambulence to save me from all of my whining?

Today I plan on spending the afternoon under the covers catching up on my trashy TV, all the while throwing my own pity party until I have to pick my little boy up from school.

Why is it that when it rains, it really does pour?

P.S. We had another good report from school yesterday, I've decided that either the teachers are lying, or that my little guy really has found a way to get with the program. Let's just hope it's the latter.

P.P.S. I can't actually believe what they play on TV in the middle of the day. There is a woman on Maury who has had 8 (yes, 8!) paternity tests for her two children, and the last guy is, still, NOT the father! How is that even possible, I mean you can only essentially get pregnant 2 days a month, eww and yuck.

P.P.P.S Is it wrong that I'm jealous that she has two kids?

(Okay, CLEARLY I'm not thinking straight with all this cold medicine coursing through my veins... I'm just going to stop typing now.)

Held Hostage.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

I'm at Apple.

My computer was missing.

Now it's been found.

Nothing was backed up.

Now they want to hold it hostage for even longer.

I'll be back to blogging when they release the prisoner.

Please hang with me.

While you're at it say a little prayer too.

It Started With a Spot.

Saturday, September 4, 2010

It all started with a spot, a spot that has consumed every waking hour of mine, or actually every sleeping hour of my My Little Man's, for this entire week. And when I say consumed, I mean Consumed.

It began after I finished what I dubbed "Project #1." While I was putting the paint away, I came across a can of tan colored paint that the original painters had left behind. I figured this had to be the paint that went in the living room, and I had in idea to do something that I have been wanting to do since we moved in, two years ago. See, from the beginning I have been driving myself crazy with the imperfections that existed from the developer, and I had been dying to have our house repainted. Not just dying, but begging as well. When you add in the scuff marks that come with an active two year old, I can not tell you how much we were in need of a fresh coat of paint.

You see where this is going don't you.

So, after I found the paint I thought I would do a few "touch ups" around my living room. I ran around with the paint covering marks here and there and to be honest, I was feeling pretty proud of myself. That was until the paint dried and I realized one thing. One very important thing.  The paint I found was not, in fact, the paint that was on the walls. I don't know if it was the color or the application, but either way my entire 900sq foot living room with 14 foot ceilings looked like something that resembled a dalmatian puppy. There were literally spots EVERYWHERE.

After a few choice words, and a kicking of my own ass I realized there was only one thing to do. I had to repaint the entire living room. Yes, I. As in by myself. As in me, the one who has never ever painted anything other than my little "projects" in my life. As in, what the hell did I get myself into.

My husband said to take my time, he also said "maybe" we should hire a professional, but considering that I am a psycho when it comes to chaos and a perfectionist at a minimum, I decided that I would not only do it myself, but have it done by the weekend.

I told you I was consumed, didn't I?

Well, everyone around here thought I was crazy, but somehow it is now 2pm on Saturday and I am happy to report that not only is the whole room done, but it looks better than it ever did. (My hubby's words not mine.) Sure there were some serious bumps along the way, but walking in no one would ever know, and I am now more confident than ever that I, and I alone, can pretty much take on any project that comes my way.

This was my house at the beginning of the week (when the madness was just beginning.)

And to think It all started with a spot. Honestly, I'm just glad it's over (and that no one got sick from the amount of fumes that filled my home.)

Note to self: painting is hard work.

Second note to self: always test new paint in a small area prior to covering the entire house.

Third note to self: toddlers make excellent assistants when it comes to the "pre" painting, the "actual" painting... not so much.
