Random Randomness.

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

I didn't realize it until my mom texted me last night, but apparently The Bachelor is back. Normally I would be like, "yay Monday nights are back on," and instead I'm meh. I think the Ben, Ashley, Emily disasters have cheapened the show for me (as if that's even possible) but that coupled with the fact that the main man is a blond, and as a blond I'm ashamed to say, blonde's just don't do it for me. That being said, you know I'm going to find my way to my DVR this week, so there is still hope for some Bachelor talk around here. HOWEVER, speaking of men that I do find over the moon attractive, I jumped so high I almost hit the ceiling when my hubby told me that Californication is coming back next week. Cue my renewed Karen obsession, and incessant talk about David Duchovny (swoon, double swoon, swoon again.)

Since we are talking about all things delicious, I have to tell you that I can't stop thinking about this mushroom pasta that I had at the restaurant L'Artusi, while in NYC over the weekend. It honestly is the best thing that I have ever tasted. Ever. I'm trying to sort of recreate it tonight, using this recipe, but topping it with Ricotta Salata vs Parmesan. I can only hope it is 1/10th as good as the original. If you ever in the area you HAVE to try this restaurant!

Oh, and don't even get me started on our weekend in New York. I've been to the city quite a few times now, and after staying with a friend in TriBeCa, I could finally envision raising kids there. That part of town is so family friendly, and kid oriented, my mind was literally blown. Our kids spent their days scooting up and down the empty sidewalks, hanging at the park and skate park, and eating very very well with our first trip to Shake Shack, and dinner at a place when they were served by "real" Ninjas. The Little Man hasn't stopped talking about it ever since! Beyond the amaziness of the city, and of course spending time with friends, my trip was made when we learned that Gray + a pack n play + a dark bathroom = 14 hours!!!!!! of sleep a night. Houston, I believe we have a traveler, which means things are about to get global. Fast.

Which leads me to travel. I did tell you this was random randomness, right? So, as you know, my husband and I have been planning a trip to Chile for quite some time now. I'd like to say a year, but really this has been in the works for as long as I can remember. We had been emailing a surf touring company that we wanted to use, and they were taking forever to get back to us. We started trying to map out the trip on our own, and were getting overwhelmed. Christmas, we began thinking of a totally different trip, to the Maldives, and were soon planning a week long boat trip cruising around uncharted surf destinations. And then we got real. Actually, my husband did. Obviously, we have all been affected by the Newtown tragedy, and for us it made us realize there there is no way we can be halfway around the world, without our boys. If they get sick, we just can't be floating on a boat in the middle of nowhere. With them? Yes. Without them? No. So, Chile, Maldives, Australia, South Africa... these are going to have a wait a bit, until Gray can handle the flight. Until then, it's going to have to be a mix of Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean. Yeah, things could be a lot worse.

Now, we were back to square one on the travel front. I basically said, I don't care where we go, I just do not want to go back to the same place in Costa Rica. We are already spending a month there, again, over the Summer, and this will be our 15th (or more) visit. Don't get me wrong, I love it there, I was just kind of excited about the idea of a new adventure. We started looking at places like Panama, and Nicaragua, but long story short, we soon realized that no where was better than where we go in Costa Rica. The bottom line is, if we only get a week to ourselves, why risk it on a sub par vacation. Also, after some convincing, I get that this is not going to be the same vacation that it has been since the little man was born (and coming with us.) The trip itself is so easy, and the idea of reading, lounging, surfing, eating dinner at an normal hour, is so inviting, that I'm actually getting pretty pumped for the trip. Best part? We are three hours outside of Miami. Done and Done. We leave in early March, my in-laws get to spend the week cuddling with the kids, and I am already dreaming of sun and surf!

My last little tidbit has to be about Gray. Gray, my love bug. My buddy. My perfect little boy. These are words that I would not have used to describe my kid from age 12- 17 months. Dramatic, whiny, (dare I say slightly annoying???) squiggly... those would have fit the bill better BUT, something happened. The same thing that happens with almost all toddlers... one day they just wake up and they are nothing but lovely, a joy, perfection. This is what the last few weeks have been like with Gray. He has begun to talk, eat like a human, play independently, play with his brother, cuddle... you name it, man, he is doing it. AND IT'S WONDERFUL. Sure, I know we are going to have toddler moments, but his growing up has made my daily life so much easier (and way more enjoyable) that I almost have forgotten how hard the last few months were. Almost.

Whew, there you have it. For those of you who didn't fall asleep, that's a little bit of what's been going on around here. I'd love to hear any of your random randomness that you would be willing to share!

P.S. Tomorrow I'm going to cut another inch inch/half off the hair. I'm obsessed and still loving my new look!

The Bachelor: The Morning After.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

You all know I'm a huge Bachelor fan. This season was blah at best, but I have to say something very unpopular here; I am so team Courtney. She was funny, she was witty, her style was awesome, she was kind of dorky, and yes, she was mean. SO WHAT? She was mean to the OTHER girls. Girls who were trying to date the same guy she was. Girls that would stab each other in the back if even given the slightest chance. Girls that were too busy trying to braid each other's hair, make friendship bracelets, and sit around singing kumbaya, instead of trying to spend time with the dude that they want to PROPOSE to them. Seriously, this is marriage they are dealing with. Never again will you have to compete to date your HUSBAND. His mom and sister liked her, aren't those the only girls that matter?

Whateves... they all break up before the final rose special anyway. At least in the past they tried for a few months before grabbing a magazine cover announcing their tearful split.

Say what you will about the show, but I dare you to talk badly anything that gave us something as funny as this.

Thanks mom for the link!

Next up Emily take two. YAWN (and by yawn, I mean that I will totally be watching.)

Current Obsession: Homeland.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

For the past few weeks there hasn't been a day that goes by that I haven't called my sister or husband and said, "OMG, I can't stop thinking about Homeland!!!!" The scary thing? It's actually true. What I don't tell them is that I probably think about it a couple times a day. Could I be more of a dork? I'm sorry, I just can't help myself... it's THAT good.

People, trust me on this one, you have GOT to watch this show. If you don't have Showtime (which also houses my 2nd and 3rd favorite shows (Californication and Dexter *die*) this is the reason to get it, or at least make friends with someone who subscribes. As in, change Match.com profile to read, "looking for a man who subscribes to Showtime and won't talk (or watch football) on a Sunday night." Period. End.

For those of you who don't know, the basic premise of the show is that Claire Danes is a CIA agent who receives some information from a terrorist, minutes before his execution, that a POW has been "turned." Months later, a man who has been missing in combat for some 8 years is found and Danes is sure that he is going to be the sleeper terrorist. The POW comes home to a family, with a crap load of issues, and Danes herself is shown to also have a few screws loose. What happens next is crazy, and I won't give any more away. Except that it's just amazing.

The only thing that could make the show better? If Jordan Catalano could just magically appear, standing by a locker, smoking a cigarette. I guess that isn't fair, because that sight would really make ANYTHING in life better. Am I the only one who can't not think of him when I see Claire Danes?

Enough reminiscing. Back to Homeland. Watch it. You won't be disappointed. Feel free to discuss if you agree or don't. Come on, I know there are a few of you who are obsessed as I am!

Bachelor Pad Recap. Bottom Line: I'm Obsessed.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

You KNOW I had to take a break from all things baby, to watch last night's premiere of the Bachelor Pad (my absolute favorite guilty pleasure from last summer.)

Here are my thoughts...

Jake and Vienna (aka Sausage) are soooooooooooooooooooooooo boring. I love that they call each other "fame whores" and they both find that to be incredibly insulting. Hello! You are BOTH fame whores. Own it. Love it. Live it.

More on Jake.

  1. He's a total douche.
  2. Who wants to date this guy?
  3. Gross.
  4. Double gross.
More on Sausage.
  1. I think she looked way better PRE nose job. Talk about a waste of surgery. She should have spent that money on some meds/ or a new personality.
  2. Her hair cut/color is just plain wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I think it might be a wig. God, I hope so.
  3. Why do all these guys want to date/ sleep with her? Is her vagina made of gold? I don't get it.
  4. Talk about fake tears. Whhhhhaaaaaaaa.
  5. Her bf is a wimp. He gives me the creeps. They are made for each other for these two reasons alone,
Which brings me to Gia. Gia is hot. Crazy but hot. How is it that she has been dumped not once, but TWICE for Vienna Sausage? Just goes to show guys don't do crazy. Or I guess they do crazy for a while and then dump crazy for more crazy. I have never been happier to be married.

Speaking of crazy... I love me some Michelle Money. She is so looney tunes, and makes for great TV. I can't wait for her one liners. It also makes me feel better that she is so insane, because that girl is WAY to pretty. The hair/ eyebrow combo is perfection.

Tiara girl? I swear I saw this chick on Dr. Phil while I was in the hospital. There really are no words.

The engaged/ broken up couple/ who then dated/ and are now broken up (I have no idea who these people are) might make for a good story line so long as that dude sacks up and stops crying. Awkward.

What's with the guy with the arm tattoo? I didn't watch Ali's season so I don't know the back story, but that tattoo sucks. I have it on good authority (aka from Us Weekly) that he is the playboy in the house. Really? It would take a serious man drought for me to drink from that well.

Biggest tool? That honor goes to the Wrestler. Did he really say "rated R for reality star?"

Love Ames. Love Jackie. Hope they get married and have genius, hipster, New York babies. Total cuteness.

That's all I have for now...

Please feel free to discuss.

P.S. I love me some Chris Harrison.  Such a cutie patootie

One Question...

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

I have one question...

What is the deal with Ashley and pants? Are the two allergic to each other?

Seriously, she must shop at Baby Gap.

Am I wrong?

BTW... Am I the only one who thinks this season would be totally boring if it weren't for Bentley? He's one evil dude, but he makes for some great TV!!!

UPDATE: 5:04 pm... so I just finished watching last night's show and 1) Ashley still hasn't worn pants or any kind of real bottom. Sometimes I think the girl would prefer a onesie. 2) I think there should be a drinking game here, every time she says Bentley take a drink... man, you would be tanked by the end! If you took a sip every time she doubted herself.... well, you'd be dead within 2 hours. Holy low self-esteem!

Cali(fornication) Style.

Thursday, March 24, 2011

I don't know why, but for some reason the minute the wheels on our plane hit the tarmac in Los Angeles, my my style seems to automatically change. Not dramatically, mind you, but there is something about the warmer temps, the tans, the relaxed vibe, that makes dressing up seem, well, so unnecessary. Things like make up, blowouts, heels, structured jackets.  Forget about it! Nope, when I get here, I become the queen of maxi skirts, sundresses, and yes, yoga pants for days at a time. It just feels like getting all fancied up is such a waste of effort, and I am just not about to waste that kind of time when there is this much beach walking to do.

If there was any Cali girl who's style I would love to adopt (ahem steal) it would have to be the uber fabulous Karen (aka Natascha McElhone) from one of my favorite shows, Californication. Her style is the epitome of California cool, with the perfect mix of bohemian flair, and East Coat chic. I love the way she accessorizes with funky jewelry, and how she always looks so effortless. Add in that to die for hair...   and this is one look I want from head to toe.

Saturday, I will be back in the land of Winter coats, so for now I'm throwing on my favorite denim shirt, patterned silk scarf, maxi skirt, and of course, leather sandals as an ode to my new style guru. Now if I could only get David Duchovny on my arm... that is one PERFECT accessory!

Currently Loving.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Hello Friends! After a week long hiatus in the country, I can't tell you how great it feels to be back. Our staycation/vacation was 100% successful, and I have to say what I am loving most right now is the fact that my little boy is finally able to not only entertain himself for a decent period of time, but is also just as happy playing with someone OTHER than me. Talk about a change of pace around here!

Along with the joy of a "big boy" I am currently loving the following things.

The Bachelor. Okay, loving doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this season of The Bachelor. Perhaps, psychotically obsessed would be a better term? Seriously, I have to blame the pregnancy hormones for this one, because I haven't watched a season of The Bachelor/ Bachelorette since Trista and Ryan got married. On a whim I decided to tune into the first episode this season, and now I find myself thinking about the show at least twice a day, at least! (pathetic I realize.) I am so "team Emily" that I almost can't wait to watch poor Chantal get her little heart broken. Oh, and Ashley H? I couldn't stand her from the beginning. I was shocked last week when Brad said he thought she would be in the final two? Really, did I miss something? She was totally closed off and reminded me of the cheerleader from Heroes. In short, me no likely. But Emily? This may be the closest we get to a fairytale ending, and even though the show is completely unrealistic, and staged, I so badly want him to marry her. If he doesn't pick her, can she please be the next Bachlorette? I could never tire of her sweet,  Miss America, Southern girl charm. Emily, will you marry ME

I am 20 weeks and 3 days pregnant! Do you know what that means? I am past the 50 yard line! I don't know about you all, but I am a huge "week counter." In school, I used to map out the semester and have a little party when I was more than halfway through. There is something about being closer to the end, than the beginning, that makes anything seem possible. Given that this baby has taken up residence on my Sciatic Nerve, right now I could use any motivation I can get!

Gwyneth at the Oscars. As if her year wasn't hot enough, she then showed up to the Oscar's in this amazing dress. I don't care about the weird broach, or earrings, this mother of two was rocking it! AND did you see these pictures of her with her kiddies in this teeny weeny bikini? Talk about a ridiculous body! I am putting this on my fridge, so after baby number two is out, I can have something insane to work towards. Now if only I could get Tracy Anderson to live with me. First things, first... have baby!

Source
Speaking of the Oscars. I called it earlier in the night, Anne Hathaway was the best dressed, and I fully stand by that. That Valentino was amazing, and so, so, so Oscar appropriate. Leave it to Rachel Zoe to find a dress that truly was bananas. Too bad Anne didn't just stick to looking pretty on the red carpet. That whole show should be filed under "most awkward" Oscars ever!

These amazing pictures, shot and styled, by my two best friends. That beautiful model is the photographer's newest baby girl, one of three kiddies, and I can't think of a better muse. I have already taken to begging these lovely ladies to do a shoot with baby Gray, and as a soon to be mother of 2, I can't think of anything that is better to receive than the gift of baby pictures. If you live in the Boston area, you should definitely check out her website, which can be found here. Don't you just die for these amazing shots?

The Eames has arrived! Yesterday, my much awaited Eames chair took up residence in our bedroom, and I am so happy with our decision to order it! I am going to paint the room this week, and as soon as a rug arrives I be posting the after pictures. To say the transformation was amazing is a vast understatement! The best part is that this chair is also incredibly comfortable! This is where my new "office" will be located in case anyone needed to find me!

The escandalo over at High Gloss Magazine. Okay, I'm not loving this so much as I am totally intrigued by why three of the six Editors flew the coop. I was a huge fan of the first issue and am now dying to know what went on behind the scenes. You know something BIG must have transpired. Given that all these ladies have blogs, I can only hope that one of them is unable to keep from spilling the goods... I guess stay tuned?

Ahhhhhhhh, so much to love and it isn't even Spring yet! Looks like the best is yet to come!

Waaaaaaaaaaa.

It's freezing and raining out, and I'm home sicker than I have been in a long time. Can somebody please call the waaaaaambulence to save me from all of my whining?

Today I plan on spending the afternoon under the covers catching up on my trashy TV, all the while throwing my own pity party until I have to pick my little boy up from school.

Why is it that when it rains, it really does pour?

P.S. We had another good report from school yesterday, I've decided that either the teachers are lying, or that my little guy really has found a way to get with the program. Let's just hope it's the latter.

P.P.S. I can't actually believe what they play on TV in the middle of the day. There is a woman on Maury who has had 8 (yes, 8!) paternity tests for her two children, and the last guy is, still, NOT the father! How is that even possible, I mean you can only essentially get pregnant 2 days a month, eww and yuck.

P.P.P.S Is it wrong that I'm jealous that she has two kids?

(Okay, CLEARLY I'm not thinking straight with all this cold medicine coursing through my veins... I'm just going to stop typing now.)

Dancing With The.......WHO CARES??????

Monday, August 25, 2008

Am I the only one in the world who hates Dancing With The Stars??? I mean really, who watches this show?

So apparently a new season/cast is upon us. How do I know this? Because, this is all E! NEWS talks about, I mean all they talk about. Tonight's leading story......apparently Kim (Junk in the Trunk) Kardashian cut her toe and the burning question is "How is this going to affect her dancing." Really? Really people? Is this breaking news, a stubbed toe?

TMZ also had this as their headline grabbing story, complete with pictures of the minor wound and the "crime scene" footage. Could this be more ridiculous? Some F list celebrity hurts her big toe and the media makes a huge tizzy about how this is going to affect her chances on some D list TV show. What has reality television come to?

I realize I am not referencing the most respectable of media outlets, but I still am in total disbelief that people are still interested in a show with washed up celebrities, wearing trashy sequined costumes, dancing to terrible elevator music. Not to mention this is like season number 5 of the same thing. Am I missing something? Maybe I am the one who is behind the times?

So, until I see any reason to have a change of heart, I will be keeping my DVR clear for some real quality television. What you ask? The new 90210 of course! Ok, ok I realize I may not be watching most high-brow of television shows, but Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh back together again? Now that's what I call must see TV. But now that I think about it wasn't Jennie Garth on last season's Dancing With the Stars...............

Donna Martin Graduates!

Friday, August 15, 2008

The image “http://superhush.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/tori-and-dean-hollywood.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I am a little completely and utterly embarrassed to tell you this. In fact I am A LOT embarrassed to tell you this......

I am totally OBSESSED with Tori and Dean. Not so much Tori and Dean themselves, but rather, Tori and Dean the TV show. I love it! I feel like I am literally watching my own life on TV. Well, not quite my life, but the similarities are frightening.

Never mind the fact that our boys are about the same age and have the same name, and never mind the fact that she was also renovating a new house, and was having major issues with the completion of said house, but like me she is totally out of her mind.

I can't believe Donna Martin is my celebrity missing half! How is it possible that during all of those 90210 reruns I never realized I was watching my soul mate on the television. Ok, ok, maybe soul mate is a bit over the top, but seriously people I love this show and will be very sad next week when the season finale airs.......now I just have to find a way to get her to read my blog. Then we will be besties, and I could move to Hollywood, and we could barbecue at each others house, and our kids will be best friends, and my son can marry her new daughter.......

Got You! What did you think, I'm some kind of stalker? I'm not that crazy.........not yet anyway.
