I'm not what you would call a die hard "trend follower." Rather I tend to invest in more long term basic pieces when shopping, versus the "this is so hot right now" mentality. However, like most people, each season I find myself longing for a bit of a refresh, and it's hard not to notice the two "trends" that seem to be showing up in every September issue landing in my mailbox; lots of plaid, piled high with gold jewelry. Year after year, I consider a flannel shirt to be a staple in my winter wardrobe, so clearly this is one trend I will be adopting this coming fall. Glamming it up with some heavy (faux) gold jewelry... well, that is just the icing on the cake for me. Even better, a plaid shirt, with a different patterned plaid scarf in the same color scheme? Really, did you even have to ask?

Madewell are doing great sweaters too at the moment. I just picked up one of their rowhouse sweaters, it's the perfect amount of lightweight drapey and warmth - a great staple.
