Once You Shellac You Will Never Go Back.

Friday, May 14, 2010

Ever since I read this article in the New York Times and saw this post by The MissusI have been dying to try the new Shellac (or gel) nail polish. Yesterday, after I referral from I friend, I found out that Lauren's Nails on Charles Street was now offering this new service. After about 10 minutes I decided that once you Shellac you will never go back. Yeah, it really is that good.

Basically it is just like getting your nails done the traditional way, but instead after each coat of polish (applied with a paintbrush) you allow your nails to harden under an ultraviolet light for a few minutes. After 4 coats you have perfectly polished nails that will supposedly stay that way from 2 weeks to up to a month. Yes, a month! There is no waiting for them to dry, no chipping, no smudging, nothing. I walked out of the salon yesterday with these beauties and the promise that they will be looking this way well into June. Not just June, but the middle of June! Um, sold!!

Before I went in I was worried that the final product would look acrylic or plasticy, but they don't. They really do just look like normal, beautiful, perfectly painted nails. With twenty colors to chose from, what is not to love about the shellac.

The price was steep, about 65 dollars, but after doing the math it definitely equals out to what it would cost to do the same mani/pedi every two weeks (and this doesn't account  for the time wasted by having to go twice.) The only difference is that this one will stay just as beautiful the whole time.... I hope.

I'll post updates after 2, 3 and hopefully 4 weeks.

I for one cannot wait for the updates on this. I have heard so much buzz about this product but am unsure if I want to give it a try. I'm an acrylic girl myself but this might just be enough to make me switch....Keep us posted!

PS That sailboat headboard is ador-able!

Sounds amazing! Can't wait to hear the results. But, what do you about the new nail that will grow in that time?

Will be interested to see your thoughts on how long this lasts - I hate when a manicure chips so quickly. Gorgeous colour! xx

Maegan: I think the new growth is the only reason why you have to get them redone. The gel actually lasts longer than the month... we will see if that's true!

OMG! Your nails are delicious! Let me know if they last the full month. I still want to get the nails that the ATL Housewives got with the zebra stripes hahaha

Got mine done on February 27, so it has been a month. My nails have grown about 1/8 inch, so I'd say that 3 weeks is probably otpimal timing (depends on your own nail growth). As far as how they look? Fantastic! Just like when I walked out of the spa. No chips and perfectly glossy. LOVE THEM! Shellac is the way to go, but wear sun block on your hands to minimize the effects of the UV light on your hands!
