A Crack Problem.

Friday, April 10, 2009

The little man seems to have developed a bit of a crack problem. The problem? His crack always seems to be showing! As in ALWAYS showing.

I can't seem to figure out what is the root of this issue. Is it that the pants are too big, the shirt too small? I've troubleshooted both and my little guy still looks like a 40 year old plumber.

Here he was showing off his best "asset" at the park this morning.

Next I'm going to have him try to unclog the kitchen sink.

Hello Gorgeous.

Yesterday was the much anticipated Christian Louboutin sale on Gilt. Despite some massive technical failures from their site, I was still able to walk away the proud new owner of the Bretelle Strappy Sandal at a pretty reasonable price. I think these babies are pretty timeless and overall were a great buy. Yay Gilt, you've done it again!

To Clomid or Not To Clomid?

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

I finally got my results back from the blood work that I had taken last week. While I was sure I was having progesterone issues, my OB determined that is not my problem. There is no real problem, which of course means there is no magic cure.

She basically told me that I am a late ovulator. I have been consistently ovulating on either day 19 or 20. I never thought that this was an issue but according to her and the Internet, people who ovulate later can have a harder time getting pregnant. They also have a higher rate of miscarriage, which is what could have led to the loss of baby #2. That's not to say I can't get pregnant or carry a full term baby, it just means it could be more difficult. Her suggestion was for me to meet with a fertility specialist next week and get a prescription for Clomid. Clomid I said? Isn't that the drug that gives you twins? Her response, ummmmm that is a distinct possibility. As in, yes you could have 3 (3!) kids under the age of 3.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against twins. One of my best friends had the most adorable little boys last year and we would be blessed to have two little guys just like them. I just wonder if it is too much to ask to have them one at a time? Three would be hard. One is really hard, and my hat is off to all of you who have more than that, twins or not. The bottom line is that if we were going to take on the chance of multiples the little man would need to be older (as in MUCH more functional) I can't see it happening any other way.

I have had a few days to think about it and as of now my plan is the following. I will keep trying the "natural" way using some of those over the counter supplements like Vitex which is supposed to bump your cycle a few days sooner. I am going to cut out soy milk which has estrogen in it to see if that can buy me a few more days. I also am going to look into acupuncture since everyone says it can work miracles.  I am going to meet with the fertility doc but I will not go on any meds for at least 6 more cycles.  In 6+ months  hopefully I will be knocked up already, or by then I will be ready for whatever comes our way. If my only options are not having any more kids or possibly having two than bring on the triple stroller (do they even make such a thing?)

That's what I'm thinking for now. If any of you have been through this or have any recommendations or have conceived with late ovulation please feel free to comment. I would be happy to take any advice.

Oh boy, this baby making stuff  is not as easy as they made it seem in sex ed all those years ago!

Message From Gilt.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

I have had many inquiries regard whether Gilt ships out side the United States. Here is the response I received. Boooo on them. Hopefully they will get it up and running soon.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Gilt Groupe.

Unfortunately, we do not currently ship to locations outside of the Unites States, nor can we accept payment from a credit card that does not have a billing address in the United States. We are exploring the possibility of shipping internationally, and we hope to offer you this service soon.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Best regards,
Gilt Groupe

Yummy Arugula Pasta.

This is one of the easiest and Yummiest recipes that I have come across in a long time. It was actually inspired by The Husband who called me one day and said that he wanted a pasta with some Arugula and chickpeas in it. Um, OK I said, I can handle that. In the end it was super delicious and took about 10 minutes to cook.

Ingredients (for 4)

1 box penne pasta
1 lemon squeezed
2-3 cups arugula
1 carton grape tomatoes halved
1/2 carton crumbled feta
1 can chickpeas
3 tbs olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Recipe

Boil pasta. Add in arugula, grape tomatoes, feta, chickpeas (cold) and stir. Dress pasta in olive oil and squeezed lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

A Night To Sleep On It.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Given the disgusting attempts by some old (emphasis on the word old) colleagues of mine to run me out of bloggertown last week this Yummy Mummy spent the weekend deciding what I should do about this little blog of mine. I woke up on Sunday morning with the answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

The bottom line is the following and this is the last I am going to mention of the whole thing.
So what if I few hags I used to work with want to spend their entire day (and by day I mean from 9-4 when they actually are at work) bashing an Internet persona in a completely unprovoked attack. Further, so what if some Nastys from around town want to join in the "fun?" The bottom line is that there are always going to be mean girls and by me tucking my tail away and disappearing that isn't going to change anything. So I'm not. I thought about it but I'm not.

The whole thing reminded me of a study that we read back in my college days during freshman psychology. In this test there were two adjoining rooms that were set up. On one side a person was told that they were to anonymously shock the person on the other side. There would be no repercussion for their actions and the person would never know who was doing the shocking. Not so surprisingly no matter how loud the screams, the anonymous person just kept shocking away. It's a bit alarming, but we have seen this little study play itself out here.

What is really ironic is that some of the people who left some pretty horrible comments on this blog actually work for a boss who has made it a pet project to protect kids from Internet bullies. I have to laugh when I think of what they would say of the show that was put on last week. I can't imagine that she would be pleased. On the other hand I would never hide this blog from a prospective employee. I am not ashamed or embarrassed about anything that I write here. My family and friends all read my blog and I know one day my son will too. While I never promoted it, I have also never tried to "hide" this blog from anyone which is how I imagine it got around my old workplace.

I can only hope that these "women" don't have girls and don't raise them to be catty little bitches just like their mothers. On the other hand, maybe if they do have girls of their own and one day said child comes home crying because some girls trashed her all over her Facebook page, they will see the carnage that can be created by such ruthless attacks. I wonder what mama is going to say then? Do you think she would have the guts to tell them that this is the way the world works and that when the little ones are at school she too goes around trashing people? That this is how she spends taxpayer money while she is "busy at work?" Somehow I doubt it.

What really struck me last week was not how mean people can be but rather how awesome strangers can be. I was pretty down on Thursday and Friday and your comments, emails, phone calls, and wall posts really really really really brightened my day. I had no idea that so many people would take the time out of their busy days and let me know that you were thinking of me. In the end the positive feedback far far far outweighed the few negative haters and that is the number one reason why I am keeping Yummy Mummy going.

This blog is supposed to be fun. Pure and simple. This is not the Diary of (Insert My Name Here.) This is the Dairy of the Yummy Mummy. Yes, it is based on my life but this is only one dimension of my life. Therefore, it should not come as shocking to anyone that this blog is ONE DIMENSIONAL. It is what it claims to be. A diary of a mom who loves her son, loves Boston, loves living a city lifestyle, and likes fashion (the horror I know.) I have tried to create a fun environment where the things that make me smile are shown. I don't intend people to have a life changing experience when reading my posts. If you want political commentary read the Huffington Post or CNN. If you want to discuss the horrors going on around the world might I suggest the ICC's website or PHR? This is not, and will never be that place. Consider it blog lite. The US Weekly of the blog world. You don't pick up a Star magazine and find yourself shocked when you see celebrities, of a Vogue and pass out because there are expensive clothes featured, so don't be surprised when this blog is exactly what it claims to be. Fun.

There was much that was said about me being a "poser" and worshiping at the "alter of two hundred dollar jeans." For me that is completely misplaced. For me the point of this blog is not that I am an ego maniacal Yummy Mummy but that we all are Yummy Mummies (even those who have yet to jump on that baby train.) Sure I like high quality clothes, who doesn't, but the readers here know that I almost never pay full price for them. Those 200 dollar jeans? I get mine for 50 bucks at Gilt and I try to show everyone else how they can too. This blog often discusses cutting back more than it does vast consumerism, and beyond that it is really just about being a mom. A mum who doesn't want to lose her identity or former self just because she had a baby and spends her days chasing a toddler around the park.

I know most of you get this and that is why you continue to read. This rant is more so for the few readers out there who really just read too damn much into this thing. The bottom line is that I don't think I'm better than anyone else. I have never portrayed that here and I never will. This is the dairy of the best parts of my life shown through an online persona. If you don't enjoy it, don't read it, and for those of you that do.....keep coming back because I'm not going anywhere.

P.S. My Husband wanted me to inform Anon that he is in fact an ass man and is not really looking for another woman to "maintain" no matter her breast size. He does, however, appreciate you looking out for him (insert snicker here.)

Oh....and just in case some of the Anons out there are looking to start up another comment war, you can be assured that I will be monitoring the comments here in the future and will only be publishing things as I see fit. That's the beauty of it being my blog and all.

April 8!

Christian Louboutin is coming April 8th to Gilt!!!! (insert gasp here.)

OMG this is going to be the sale of the century.

If you are not a member of Gilt shoot me an email and I will send you an invite.

Look's like Christmas is coming in April this year!!

Happy Thoughts.

Thursday, April 2, 2009

It's pretty hard to ignore what is going on in the "comment section" of yesterday's blog.

1) I had no idea that someone out there disliked me that much. 2) I had no idea that the working vs stay at home mom debate was still such an issue. 3) I refuse to spend anymore energy on something I can't control (new year's resolution #1)

That being said I thought I would send out a picture that makes me smile. Last night the little man insisted that all his "friends" sit next to him. I laugh because he just looks so little!

What Do You Do All Day?

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

I often hear this question from certain friends and family members, and more often than no from complete strangers. Most of the time this is said as, "What do you do all day? Don't you get bored" Always with that tone, the tone every stay at home mom knows. That whole, "how in the world can you be so happy, you must be delusional, omg I would kill myself tone." Now that I think about it, these statements are almost always said by those without kids or those who's kids are long gone and full grown.

The truth is yes, sometimes I get little bored, and when I do find myself looking at the clock more than usual, that is just a sign that I need to mix up my routine a bit. I never, NEVER see it as a sign that I need to go back to work (NEVER.) Because the truth of the matter is that I used to get bored there too. The only difference is that I work I could never do anything about it.

Don't get me wrong, I am in NO WAY talking smack about anyone who has kids and works, doesn't have kids and works, doesn't have kids and doesn't work, etc...(did I cover everyone?)

That being said I figure that this would be a good chance to give you a day in my life. This way the next time I hear this question I can just direct said busybody here.
  • Approx 8:00am  Little Man wakes me up to the sweet chorus of "mama, mama, mama, mama,MAMA, MAMA, MAMA, baba."

During this time I shower, eat lunch, clean up kitchen, make bed, straighten up house, do laundry, plan dinner (or prepare if it needs to cook for a long time, blog, surf Internet/ order diapers, etc., pay bills, make appointments, watch DVR, and occasionally (almost never) take a short nap (when in Rome I say.)
  • 4:15  LM gets up.
  • 4:30 Snack.
  • 4:30-5:15 Park.
  • 5:15 Take tricycle to Whole Foods and pick up dinner makings.

  • 7:45 Dinner for Yum and Husband.
  • 8:00- 9:15 TV with Hubby......and wine time for Yum.
  • 9:30 Bed time.

Whew. That's my day in a nutshell. It's not for everyone, but it makes me feel very happy to know that I am able to repeat this on a daily basis (lucky too.)
Sure we have our ups and downs and when it rains the day goes much, much, much, much slower (did I say much?) but in the end I'd trade a little boredom any day for the fact that I get to spend all day, every day, in my gym clothes playing with my best friend (my blonde 18 month old BFF.)
