We made it through Sandy completely unscathed, and my thoughts are with everyone who is without power. Those of you with kids, well I can't even imagine what you must be going through. Yesterday, when the entire city shut down, my kids started climbing the walls, and I have never been more thankful for an open Barnes and Noble, in my life. Luckily, the store shut down at noon, allowing all of those wonderful employees the chance to get home, before the worst of the storm hit. I'd never thought I'd say it, but this was a glimpse of corporate america at it's best. Most of our weekend was spent trying to stay busy, in a town that was quickly closing shop. Now that I have both kids in the morning, and no naps to worry about, I renewed all those old memberships and this weekend the kids and I hit the aquarium, the children's museum, and the museum of science. Yesterday, we were one of the last to leave the T before its closing, and as we arrived home Gray got out to walk, and, I kid you not, he began to get pushed down the sidewalk. Needless to say, we spent the rest of the day inside. Here is a little glimpse into the week that was.

I wish you all a safe and speedy recovery in your community, and a special thanks to all those first responders, most of whom are still out there, trying to undo the massive damage Sandy created. You guys are such heroes!

The Family That Surfs Together...

Monday, October 29, 2012

... has a whole lot a fun together!

Inspired by our viewing of Chasing Mavericks over the weekend, I'm going to let you all in on a little secret; my boys aren't the only surfers in the family. Back in the day, I used to be on our local surf team, and after my husband and I discovered our shared love of the sport (it's actually what got us interested in each other in the fist place) we used to take surf trips together at least twice a year. After I became pregnant with the LM, I was pretty much relegated to sand castle duty, but this summer I was able to make my way back in to the water, and I have to say it felt really good! Until Gray is able to paddle out with the rest of us, I'm afraid that I will still be stationed on the beach, but I'm hoping soon we will be able to be one of those families who travels the world, seeking out the endless summer. I said this to my husband, after the movie, and he replied, "I kind of thought we already were." Damn, I hate it when he's right ;)

Here is our little tribe in action.

Sandy is coming. Strong winds started up here today, and now we are all just anxiously awaiting what will happen next. Our thoughts are with everyone down south, especially my husband's entire family, which is located in rural Maryland. Be safe, friends.

Weekend Links.

Friday, October 26, 2012

What are you all up to this weekend? Tonight, my husband and I are doing something we haven't done in at least 4 YEARS! We have a babysitter and we are going to a movie. Together! (Gasp.) It's going to be totally cheesy, but  I'm actually kind of excited, and I can't wait to get my hands on some real movie theater popcorn! I hoping that all of cold water surfing, won't turn me off to our upcoming trip to Chile!

Whatever your plans are, I hope you have a great weekend, and that you stay safe and dry! Here are some links from around the web to get your weekend started a little early. TGIF!

The path of the storm. I'm actually a little nervous, they say this one is going to be worse than the perfect storm...

Gorgeous makeup. How beautiful are her eyes?

Go smother your kids with affection. NOW! (Thanks Anne)

If I had a girl, this is the exact room I would want. So sweet!

This bag is haunting me, and has totally replaced the coveted Birkin spot in my dreams.

Breakfast is served!

A great (and easy) last minute halloween costume. Don't forget the side braid!

I would totally make this for the kids, if it weren't for the fact that I would eat it all!

My favorite shoe, now in oxblood. I honestly wear these until there are holes in the soles!

This rug!!!!!!!!! Can santa fit anything in his sleigh for mom??

A Family Affair.

As promised, here are some pictures from our annual apple picking excursion. I think this is the first time that the four of us spent the entire day together, and I have to say I really liked it. Until now, it's been divide and conquer around here, and Gray's morning nap has kept us from straying to far from home. As of  Tuesday, he is officially a one nap a day kid (which is happy/ sad at the same time) so I expect there will be a lot more weekends like the last, filled with quality family time, and a few meltdowns to keep us on our toes. These three boys really do have my heart, you can see why.

(A serious talk with his love. They seem to be 5 going on 15!)
