Rookie Mistake.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

What is it that the majority of new moms do, and then immediately regret right after the birth of their first child? No, it's not immediately rethinking your decision to become a parent in the first place (although we all have those days!) It's that we all give birth and then run out and make one of the most drastic changes of all. We cut off our hair. I was no exception to this rule.

Exhibit A: Me about 8 months pregnant.

Exhibit B: 2 weeks after the LM was born.

Finally 2 years later I am slowly getting back to my "roots."

I think there should be a law imposed that one must wait 2 months after giving birth to make any changes to their physical appearance. Seems to me that the worst time to make such changes is when you are at you fattest, most exhausted, and most emotionally unstable. Hmmmm perhaps I should file a suit against my hairdresser?

His defense? He did warn me........ I was just WAY to tired to listen. This is one rookie mistake I won't be making again!

mmm yes i have heard this is a common mistake .. i have told my Man to not let me anywhere near a hairdresser and if i do its to get my usual roots touched up.. and not go some drastic dark chestnut colour.. that will make me look more drained than i already will be... ;-)

I did something similar! Except it was two weeks BEFORE the birth of little miss...not only did I chop it all off...I got bangs!!! Nothing like framing a fat face?!? I wanted to cry for the next few days...everyone kept telling me it's cute!! because I wanted to feel "cute" at 40lbs overweight and retaining water like no other! argh...it makes me upset just thinking about it!!

I made my new stylist promise not to let me cut and get bangs together...EVER!

Same mistake here and ...twice! I blame my hairdresser too! Actually any hairdresser! They seem to love cutting hair as much as possible and offering some sort of "mousy" hair color! By the way, you look fab with shorter hair as well! Ciao. A.

I am a huge fan of your blog, but a little shocked that your post infers that getting a short haircut post-kids is a mistake. I had long hair since I was 9 and went short after my 2nd daughter was born. I really love it and feel like I actually have a style now and not a mop that I need to throw in a ponytail to get out of my face! Short hair is fashionable and makes for one very chic mommy if done correctly!

I think you look cute with short hair, Yum! You are one of the few who it works for!

But yes, i prefer your hair long.

I said i wanted a bob what i meant was a reverse bob-so essentially I ended up with a helmet that grew into a mullet. I don't think 2 months is enough time! My sister said well now you look like a mom. Too much emphasis on my face ugh! I will have to find a picture to share with you it was terrible.

Hilarious! I did the same thing two weeks after my son was born. My cheeks never looked so huge! Luckily we live and learn. I kept my long lock after babies #2 and #3. Change is sometimes good, but timing is everything!

I waited til Ollie was a bit older but cut it short nonetheless and now madly trying to get it anywhere near long enough for some resemblance of pony tail length.

I do like you with short hair though, it looked great.

You look lovely no matter what you do, but I must say you look best with long hair. I am totally in agreement. My hair is still mid-back, two kids later.

Hope your computer probs are solved ASAP.

Anon...I am in no way suggesting that short hair in and of itself is a bad idea. I think it's pretty chic on some people. I was just saying that it's a very good idea to wait until those pregnancy hormones are out of your system before making such a drastic change, cut, color, etc....... I immediately regretted my decision and will not make the same one without a lot of thought!

April- you are too cute! No baby number two yet....still waiting to see if this is my month!
