Best Beach Bag Ever.

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

A few weeks ago I was in search of the perfect beach bag. One would think that this could be an easy task, but alas I found it to be a major pain in the arse. My one requirement? The thing had to be big. Like big. Like could carry your child or yourself in it big. Why so big you ask? I'm sure those of you out there with kids know......taking the little one to the beach entails also taking A LOT of crap. A LOT of crap.

Every bag I found would only hold maybe one towel, one bottle of water, a few snacks, and maybe if I was lucky a cover up. Sure if I was single that would work perfectly. Just like living in a studio apartment would. But living in  Studio with a husband and a two year old? I don't think so. No, I needed the 5 bedroom, suburban home, sitting on 2 acres kind of beach bag. Yeah, that big.

On a whim I popped into vineyard vines, a store I don't usually go to as I could never pull off a look that preppy. Lined on the back wall I saw what I had been looking for, the McMansion of beach bags. *Behold* the Murray Tote

When I say big, I mean big. This thing is massive. Not so much in size but in volume. Since there is no real structure to the canvas you can fit a TON of stuff in here.

What kind of stuff you ask? Well I just put in two full sized beach towels, a change of clothes for the little guys and myself, a diaper, 2 bottles of sunscreen, 3 buckets, two shovels, my Kindle, 1 liter of water, two juice cups, a bag of goldfish, keys, and water wings. Now that is what I'm talking about! You know what the best part is? I still have room left...would you like me to carry anything for you as well?

The one I got is a different pattern than the one available online, but you get the idea.  Hmmm the next time the little man refuses to walk I may just fit him in there too?

I've been looking for something like this as well. Does it fold up well for packing?

Oh yes~ I used it as a carry on but it folds up to about 6 by 6 inches.

I have been in the hunt for a huge beach bag too! Does it have- a small zipper section for keys and wallet to hide? And can those straps fit on a shoulder leaving hands free to hold other hands??
